Facilities
MHL has occupied a site in the Sydney suburb of Manly Vale for over 60
years, right beside the old Manly Water Supply Dam.
Working Space:-
- Covered experimental space - 2230 sq m
- Open air experimental space - 3530 sq m
Major Hydraulic Facilities:-
- 35m x 1.0m x 1.4m Wave flume with adjustable floor an random wave generator.
- 11m x 0.6m x 0.8m Tilting flume with glass panels.
- 30m x 30m x 1m Wave basin with random wave generator.
Other Site Facilities:-
- Computer centre with remote sensing, GIS and database capabilities.
- Electronics workshop for construction and repair of instrumentation.
- Mechanical workshop for the construction of experimental facilities.
- Clean water flows up 1.13cu m/s from Manly Dam (a 9,000,000 cu m reservoir).
- Laboratory instrumentation for measuring most hydraulic parameters.
- Field instrumentation to measure hydrodynamic and ocean processes.
The office accomodation facilities at MHL have been used by NSW Department
of Commerce to showcase sustainable design and
renewable energy.
